Awesome Uses For Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is filled with the rich taste and aroma of fresh coconut, making it a delicious complement to medium-heat sautéed dishes and baking when you’re craving a taste of the tropics. In addition, it is a source of Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) as well. Also try it for hair and skincare – as an all-over moisturizer; a deep conditioning treatment for dry hair; or gentle, non-irritating makeup remover.

1. Makeup Remover

Warm about a teaspoon of coconut oil between your finger tips, then massage onto your face to dissolve makeup. Be gentle while coaxing off mascara. Wet a washcloth with hot water, then wring out thoroughly. Place it over your face and then gently massage away the last traces of mascara.

2. Coconut Oil French Fries

  • 2 1/2 pounds potatoes, peeled and sliced into desired french fry size slices
  • 1-1 1/2 cups coconut oil
  • sea salt

Soak peeled and cut potatoes in a bowl of room temperature water for 8-12 hours. Pat dry with paper towels.

Using a large skillet, heat coconut oil to 300 degrees. Fry potatoes until they are just barely cooked and still limp. Remove fries from oil and let cool.

Bring coconut oil up to 375 degrees. Fry French fries a second time until golden brown and crispy. Season with sea salt.

3. Coconut Oil Tooth Paste

Mix coconut oil and baking soda into a paste. Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil and mineral drops, if desired

4. Coconut Oil Moisturizer

Ingredients
  • ½ cup Shea Butter
  • ½ cup Cocoa Butter or Mango Butter
  • ½ cup Coconut Oil
  • ½ cup light oil like almond or olive
  • Optional: Essential Oils for scent- I like using 10-30 drops depending on the essential oils used. Peppermint and Citrus/Lavender and favorites at our house.
Instructions
  1. In a double boiler or glass bowl, combine all ingredients except essential oils.
  2. Bring to medium heat and stir constantly until all ingredients are melted.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Move to fridge and let cool another 1 hour or until starting to harden but still somewhat soft.
  5. Use a hand mixer to whip for 10 minutes until fluffy.
  6. Return to fridge for 10-15 minutes to set.
  7. Store in a glass jar with a lid and use as you would regular lotion or body butter. If your home stays above 75 degrees, it may soften and need to be kept at the fridge, but it will stay whipped at a temperature lower than that.

5. Shave your legs

In the shower, use a damp washcloth to remove most of the water from your legs. Coat them with a thin layer of coconut oil.

Shave away, and don’t forget to rinse the razor often because the coconut oil can clog the blades.
